Introduction

Founded in August 2022, the Indigenous Film Academy of Taiwan represents a groundbreaking initiative in Asia, dedicated to supporting and empowering indigenous filmmakers. While still in its early stages, our mission is clear: to bring together filmmakers from diverse indigenous backgrounds across Taiwan. By working collectively, we aim to amplify our stories and foster a vibrant exchange of perspectives within the filmmaking community. Our vision is both straightforward and impactful: to empower the next generation of indigenous storytellers to authentically share their narratives through a variety of visual mediums, with a particular focus on film.

Our Missions

Education

Inspire and educate the next generation of indigenous storytellers in Taiwan to create impactful narratives through film.

Empowerment

Provide a supportive platform to nurture emerging filmmakers, offering space for discussion and opportunities to explore different perspectives on their work under the guidance of experienced instructors.

Connection

With 16 indigenous groups in Taiwan, we are rich in unique stories. Beyond sharing these narratives, we aim to broaden our horizons by connecting and exchanging with filmmakers from Oceania and exploring opportunities for collaboration.

Share

By sharing films within the classroom, we foster deeper discussions, raise critical questions, and propose solutions to challenges faced in each other's work.

Preservation and Culture Translation

Every documentary film serves as a cultural memory archive for indigenous tribes, capturing the lives and perspectives of local residents while deepening the understanding of their history, culture, and emotions.
