台灣原住民族電影學院
INDIGENOUS FILM ACADEMY OF TAIWAN

The First Session

Taiwan's Indigenous peoples have long been recognized as great storytellers, preserving their culture and emotions through the tradition of oral storytelling.
"Let us tell our own stories" embodies the reclaiming of narrative authority. Now is the time to turn this vision into action. By bringing the concept of urban film academies back to Indigenous communities, we can empower storytelling through film—not only as a way to document life but also to preserve and pass on cultural heritage.
B’bu Hagay (Tayal for Snow Mountain), Taiwan’s second-highest peak, symbolizes the unique cultural identity of the surrounding tribes. The "B’bu Hagay: Film Academy Under Snow Mountain" reflects this deep connection to the land.
This mountain-based academy underscores the creative potential of Indigenous communities, demonstrating their collective filmmaking power and amplifying their voice in mainstream society.
In August 2022, the inaugural program was held in the Sqoyaw tribe, bringing together participants from nine Indigenous groups for a two-week course. The program focused on filmmaking, storytelling,
and cultural preservation, culminating in the production of two short films and the graduation of 18 participants.
